How to dry kaolin clay?

Kaolin drying removes moisture from the clay to improve its stability and usability for various applications.

Clay dryer is a single-drum rotary dryer specially used for drying high-moisture clay. It is an excellent choice for drying kaolin.

Working principle of the kaolin clay dryer:

1. Feeding

The feeder continuously supplies raw materials. Kaolin enters the dryer drum via a conveyor. The drum is slightly inclined, with the feed end elevated.

The feed port is equipped to prevent heat loss and dust leakage, ensuring efficient thermal energy utilization.

2. Hot air drying

The kaolin is directly dried in the cylinder by rotary drying. Hot air is generated by a hot air furnace for drying the kaolin.

The inner wall of the cylinder is equipped with lifting plates to ensure full contact between the kaolin and the hot air, ensuring uniform heating.

3. Moisture evaporation

When drying kaolin, heat gradually penetrates the interior of the kaolin particles, causing the internal moisture to migrate to the surface and evaporate into the airflow.

The moisture content of kaolin is gradually reduced from about 30–50% to below 10% or even completely dried while maintaining uniform particle.

4. Discharge

The dried kaolin gradually cools at the end of the cylinder and moves to the discharge port. Then kaolin clay can be directly transported to a silo or to subsequent packaging.

The exhaust gas and water vapor are purified by a dust collector and then discharged by an induced draft fan, completing the kaolin drying process.
